Stray Dogs and Cats in Taiwan
The problems facing animal shelters in Taiwan are serious. Despite the end of the euthanasia policy for stray dogs and cats in 2017, a number of problems remain. The capacity of animal shelters is severely lacking, which means that stray animals have to face even more difficult conditions. Despite the change in policy, the stray population has not been effectively controlled and legal shelters have limited capacity and are underfunded. The failure of these shelters to provide adequate care and environment has led to increasing disease and mortality among stray animals, further compounding the problem.
